“When I joined, Kristu Jayanti college for my BA, I had to take up Psychology though I didn’t want it. It was either that or Computer Science. I dropped out later because I couldn’t keep up with my lab. I was very good at theory but practical, I wasn’t. Back then, it was hard to digest that this was a condition that was challenging. There was no Taare Zameen Par, back then.”

How did Karwahn, happen?

.
“I had an idea for a renewable energy business, i arranged a meet with engineers from Taiwan. We brainstormed and realised we could do this and get a prototype done, so we did it. We started Life Hack innovation. This was 3 years ago. I had incubated my start-up at Chennai. Due to the floods, I lost all my money. Raw materials worth, lakhs together I lost. Due to this, I couldn’t get the product out. I was on the roads and I wanted to kill myself but somehow i didn’t. That is when I told myself, I need to be alive for a reason. I started gathering people and training them to make things out of wood. We do bike, car replicas, we do toys, we even do Chennapatna toys. Even today, things we make, are bought because they look awesome, not because they are made by disabled people.”

How tough is it for friends/family?
.
“There’s this friend of mine called Harish, he has been my best friend. Without him, I wouldn’t have been where I am. Even when I was on the roads, he used to be like ‘Macha, eno maadtya kano neenu, jeevandalli’. Even during my peak, he said, ‘Ivella enu ilwo, innu eneno maadtyo neenu’. I feel we all need friends like those. He has literally sustained my torture, he has lived my negatives and positives. He knows, he knows where and when I would need his help to walk, where I wouldn’t. That’s how he’s been automated.”
.
“I see myself having enterprises that solve world problems and not just make money. It doesn’t matter at what scale we are. A business should be able to sell their product or service just because it solves a problem. There is motivation available easily in the market right now. But what we lack in today’s world is people who do. I choose to be that guy who does, I am Ajit Babu”
